Hi Shred...I myself am just getting into this...but I tend to use it for "re-inforcement" right now...as I have with REX files in the past too.
I like getting a lot of my drums with the instant drummers because of the "dial-in" factor.......and then when close; I tend to use outside resources for the fills and the missing......"gee...neeeeed a snnnnnare there buddy :) kinda things.

Reason is a hugh monster of a program and very nicely designed one also....there are people who spend countless hours with just one aspect of Reason.....and it's just amazing with all the stuff they come up with.
Rotsa luck there Shred :)

Yeah I must admit I am overwhelmed with all what Reason can do. I am trying to learn by trial and error......I am only using like 1/100th of it's potential. Not for the faint at heart.....lol

I just use if for bass right now, and plan to get into the drum computer in the near future. I was using the Bome mouse/keyboard thing as well but have gone back to "programming" the bass and drums again.

I just can't seem to escape the limited use of loops, and/or instant drummers. I want all the freedom and all the control to do whatever I hear in my head not what the loop or pre-recorded drum pattern is steering me into. Hard to explain but I am going to have to keep pluggin away. Thanks anyways camaro............let me know if you discover anything interesting.

Well I just thought it was me who gets dumbfounded with reason. I can do very minimal things with it right now. But I do like it. i just can't sit in front of the computer all day trying to figure it out. LOL

Well most of us ARE guitar players not keyboard players ........or guitar players 1st.... and keyboards 2nd or 3rd .... so there is always that technophile feel to Reason ............ Technology seems to take a lot of the spontanaity away from the guitar player like when the Digitech pedals started coming out!.... I had the RP-1 pedal board and was lost!!!!!!!!!
From StompBoxes to 128 pre-sets and 128 Factory settings ......... DUDES seriously....... I was overwhelmed!........... then I upgraded to the RP-10........ Programable expression pedal/ Wah? Volume / etc.......... etc...... Talk about LOST!!!!!!!
Gigging with that thing was more like TAP dancing then playing guitar!!!!!!!! I was thinking more about what sound / patch to use then on my upcoming solo!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately .... I never noticed until we made some cheap "live" tapes .........and I could hear what the problem was!!
The best thing I ever did was put it under the bed and break out the stompboxes again and plug them into a Marshall, Fender, or 5150 head ............. my playing instantley got better .......at least in a live situation!
I say use Reason like Camaro says to supplement the instant drummers if you have them all ,, like me ........muahhhhhahahahaa.............and also maybe some self-made Rex or plug in a drum machine with touch sensitive heads to get what you don't have ..... ......I say ......the less time spent on technology and more with the hands wrapped around the neck of your guitar ............the better..........It's sure to keep away writers block! Plus it's good for your callouses ...... and songwriting!!!!

Unfortunately we ALL have to deal with technology in the real world..... so .................the point is..........don't let it rule you ............and your music...... just let it fly.........RULE it!!!!!!...... and be creative........
sorry to rant ............
I certainly didn't mean to!!
LOL

I have the tendency to fancy myself a geeky fella, so I figure I can somehow make it work. But in this case I think I am being overly ambitious.......LOL

I want to embrace all the technology I can, but hopefully not at the cost of my sanity.....LOL

i recomend the reason refill drums on cd i got it a while back it has awesome realistic samples.makes the factory redrum stuff sound like a 80,s casio.i would say to try out the get user groove setting to get a more humanized sound. for instrumental stuff i like to record drums and then bass first because you can always change the melody.i was reading a article on how joe satriani goes about writing and it was interesting.only problem is reason needs rock bass tones. i cant seem to get a song on riff caster or i would upload something.i have been spending to much time programing drums.im thinking of getting more instant drums.im not that impressed with the matt sorum one i mean it sounds good and is usable it also sounds like a drummer showing off with a fill every measure.the intensity does not change much and 182 on the tempo man i will have practice a lot more like i used to in order to get sixteen note solo,s going that fast on the mentrome

You guys are still ahead of me. I don't know how to use it a s a rex file all I know is how to get some strings to play in rewire and only 1 track I don't understand how to get multiple tracks to record or play or anything. I did however purchase Acid Pro 6 nd started messing with that last night and was able to make a pretty cool intro. It's not bad so far LOL

Here are two songs that I did all of the background as midi using Band-In-A-Box. Then I imported the midi into Reason, rewired Reason to RWS and used the instant drummer. Then I just recorded the guitars over that.
