Is there any way to copy a Riff Layer from one riff to another? Or import riffs or takes into your Riff Layers?

I've been breaking my songs down into smaller parts then mixing them to riffs to save on computer power. Then assembling the mixed down riffs in a new song to complete a project.

I have been recording my vocals as Riff Layers over guitar and would like to copy them to a new riff.

Thanks,

Jamie

I have been asking myself the same question lately Jamie. But I think the answer is no.
I will be interested in seeing the answer from other users and or the 3 D's.
At best there must be a work around - I hope.
I sure wish we could cut and paste layers from riffs.

waiting for an answer too,
Mark

This is the most frustrating things I find about RW. It's as if layers are stuck in analog tape land, fully committed in place, and can't be handled with the kinds of operations we are all used to in digital recording.

If we can move them around, I think it would be great to be able to build a library of riff layers (like a fruity loops library) as rhythm or bass ideas and drag them into any riff at any time...

There are a few time stretch algorithms can make them fit if they are of the wrong length, so that shouldn't be a great hurdle.

That is definitely a feature that we want to support directly in the future. For many situations, you can just duplicate a Riff and delete that layers that you don't want. But there are also situations where you want to make a new Riff pulling layers from many other Riffs and that isn't supported right now. I could go on for another few paragraphs on why we don't do it right now (Riffs of varying lengths, tempos, etc), but I'll be more straightforward and say that it is something we need to support in the future...

Thanks Dave..

Hopefully this can be included in the future.

You've mentioned all the cases where you can't do it in previous messages (varying lengths, tempos, etc), but I was never sure why it can't be done for those cases that you can do it (same length, same tempo, same etc)...

It'd be a definite plus; I've had several occasions where I'd like to bring in a riff from another project, but cannot.

I can always re-record them, but c'mon...where's the lazy in that?

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. I’m happy to see that I’m not alone. I tend to get caught up in the technology and waist all kinds of time looking for better ways to do simple things like this when I could just re-record them. But, that’s the just the engineer in me.

If all goes well, I should get my first two songs that have been completely recorded and produced in Riff Works posted on my website by the end of the weekend.

Once again, Sonoma WireWorks you guys and gals rule!!!

CGord,

You can export a Riff in the Riff List section. You can then import that saved Riff into any project. Just check out the Export and Import buttons in the UI.
