I've tried the demo version of Rifftracker with my podXt yesterday and I was a bit disappointed with the sound quality of the drums. I'm comparing them with my drum sounds using soundfonts from Sonic Implants.
Anyone shares my view?

Any of the samples by Drums on Demand sound fabulous.............maybe the demo version ones aren't the best...but there are more to purchase. Granted there are other options.........but there is a lot of good drummers available as well.

hi elka.its ok but the drummers are going to be tweaked.on the whole they are fine, just that things need to settle due to the new riffworks v2.its like all new software, you get a gremlin in the works and things go t**s up.

One of the nice things in RWv2 is the ability to apply effects to the backups/drums. A little eq or compression might help if it doesn't sound like you want.

They are basically a "dry" sounding set..... RW II gives you more effects this time to spice things up other than reverb (as stated by gatorjj). The real plus for these drums is the ability to have a variable loop and a fairly simple and quick dial in of the loop. Import REX combos with ID for more. Bring in ReWire.
Right now I am working on a project where the ID loops are being exported as waves and reconstructed in another application. The same for all the guitar parts also. More time involved but also some other things I can do.
I like the dry sound...cause you can add effects....but ya can't take 'em (effects) away.

Elka,

The ability in RW2 Standard to apply effects to the instant drummer loops is good thing. i agree the quality of the drums sounds themselves are not great.

DFH and BFD are wicked drums. they were recorded using $50,000 U$S worth of mics., alone! The are vst and rewire compatible but they dont work with Riffworks :( . I hope they upgrayde Riffwork so we can use these super high quality drums like other recording softwre on the market allows, like abletone live.. The ableton software came with my line 6 Toneport and supports all these drums.
Jamming on Ez drummer by toontrack DFH on ableton live I actually forget Im not playing with a real drummer. absolutely incredible human interfacing..

Hey there Beamo! I am very curious about EZ Drummer, but I have never tried it. The drum patterns in the libaries are all preset midi beats that are replaced with real drum sounds once added to the timeline, right? I gather that these are not easily editable, but because there are so many I guess you can cleverly slice up and make you own stuff with them, right?

I am curious how you use the app. I have heard some awesome results with it but I am skeptical about how custom you can really make the beats with it. If I had a drum beat specifically in mind, would I be able to create it (or find it) fairly easily with EZ Drummer?

My 2 cents....I agree the drum sounds are not what they could or should be. I use Heavy Core 2 quite a bit and have to add some Tripwire EQ to define the kick.

A solid kick and snare (with no effects) is essential to any decent sounding kit (live or otherwise). This is definatley an area that needs improvement in the future.

However, on the other hand the abiltity to lay down tracks quickly and have drums that don't sound like a "drum machine" is also a great benefit and i would much rather spend time writing and recording than programming drums.

More attention to detail when recording the drums would probably result in much improved sounds. ;)

Cheers,
Chip

What part of the InstantDrummer sound quality do you find lacking? I've always thought that they sounded really good as long as they're played at or near their native tempo. Some sound fine slowed down a bit, while others can fall apart pretty quickly.

Some of the drums has a lot left to desire... the Bare Bones from Discrete Drums are awfull especially "the double" kick and "bash" - I use them anyway... just to get some rough ideas down (I often need 2 bars of double kick). Any suggestions about wich ones sound better? Please let me know.
