Sisnoodles,
The DOD Cds contain .rex files and each CD has a different style of drumming on it. On the CD I've got (Vol.1) there are 875 loops and they're subdivided in to categories based on their BPM and style e.g. 097BPM(Hard Shuffle); 108BPM(Headbanger) etc.
Inside each category there are .rex files for different parts of the song e.g. Chorus, Intro, Verse etc. Many of the categories have multiple song parts e.g. ChorusA, ChorusB, ChorusFill, ChorusRide Fill.
You can't alter the loop at all and that's why they include so many variations of a single song part.
With the Instant Drummer, you get song parts which are variable and which you can alter in realtime.
As to which is better value, it's difficult to quantify 875 discreet and individual loops against 40+ Instant Drummers, each with a whole spectrum of variation.
The IDs are $10 and my 875 loops on the CD cost $20.
It's difficult to remember all the individual REX files, their nuances and differences. I've spent ages trying to remember where a specific beat was in amongst the hundreds of loops but with IDs, there are less to cope with.
This probably doesn't help much but hopefully it might give you some food for thought.
