Has anyone linked these programs together with any success? I am looking into it and wondering where to start...

Thanks,

I have Ableton 6 now but haven't really gotten into it too much yet. I will check it out.

Are there basic tutorials for this? How exactly do you link them up via Rewire?

Thanks,

Just launch RiffWorks first and then Ableton. Ableton will then be slaved to RiffWorks.
You will have to check the box for ReWire in the RW back-up section. VSTs will not work in Ableton while in slave mode

If VSTs will not work in Ableton then I'm not sure why you would want to do this? The idea I had was to use the synth sounds and drum loops and such. What other limitations are there? So, whatever is happening in Ableton will be route to Riffworks as a backing track so to speak? Interesting...

Thanks!

VSTs will not work while it is in slave ReWire mode. This is true for many applications while they are in slave ReWire mode as the host application is the one that supports the audio stream now.
All the devices and instruments of Ableton itself will work though while in slave mode. Any VSTi tracks or tracks you have in Ableton using VSTs plugins could be rendered to a track as a work around and then go into ReWire mode. Also by doing it that way it would take less CPU power as opposed to running the VSTs and VSTi's.
It's really not as hard as it sounds to you once ya get things rolling.

Any good resources for learning more about Rewire? Good web sites or tutorials. Thanks!

blue4u

I posted this here before and will do so again for you and hope no one gets upset with me for repeating myself.
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44053&highlight=vst+rewire+slave+mode

Check the archives here and also type in ReWire in Google.
Go to Propellerheads site too as ReWire is their "baby" so to speak

As said before, ReWire is not that big a deal to understand as it operates by the order in which you launch the applications. If you have RiffWorks open and launch Reason or Ableton they are forced into ReWire slave modes, period.
The bigger deal will be just understanding the software programs you are using in the first place.
