@ Chris, good on ya mate your voice sounds cool to me mate, give us more :)

Uncle Bill

P.S. And don't make the mistake of hiding your voice in the mix, when you sing, more often than not the words are more important than the notes :)

Thanks Bill!!...I had planned on turning up the level on the vocals, but my storage hard drive died a few weeks ago so all I've got is an .ogg version I had mixed to listen to in the car as a test run. *DOH* It's my fault for not making regular backups!

Thanks guys for the votes of confidence!

I've tried this once and it worked, hard drives can sometimes crash cause of being over heated. I read this article on how this guy put his hard drive in the freezer over night and was able to recover his files cause it took longer for the HD to warm up/overheat.

Like I said, I tried it and it allowed me enough time to recover my files. If I remember correctly, I had to re-freeze it a couple of times to get it all back. Make sure you use a zip lock bag to prevent condensation. Be prepared to have only about 20-30 minutes to do this though. So you don't have very much time after each freezing just so you know.

Chris you didn't say whether your storage drive was external or not, but here's a little trick if you have a USB external drive that one day Windows fails to recognize. Crack that sumbitch open and inside you'll see a normal IDE hard drive in most cases, which you can then plug direct into your mobo. It seems the little connector on the case that goes from IDE to USB can sometimes fail. Unfortunately its happened to me on every removable HD I've bought (and I've bought many different brands).

Back to your regularly scheduled topic, already in progress. :D

Chirs, I was baseing this on the assumption that you know how to open your external HD case and just place the HD itself in the freezer, and not the whole case with the HD inside (not hard at all). I'd give the above a try first, then move on the freezer thing if that doesn't work. These external HD are just a regular HD as Pooter pointed out and are usually IDE or SATA, in either case it's just a difference of the interface but a HD none the less. If what Pooter suggested works, then you've got yourself an extra HD in you machine. Just remember that you'll have to do a few more steps than just putting in your machine, you'll have to make sure you designate it as a slave drive, and be sure it detects in the BIOS as well in which you might have to enable that interface of the MOBO in the BIOS which would probably be Device 1 Drive 1. Your main drive is alwasy Device 0 or Drive 0.

If you need anymore help feel free to contact me through email.

Evan thats what POD Farm is for. If a gitar player can cover up with effects so can a vox. Go for it. Reverb, Delay, Modulation ( Chorus & Flang.) Just stay away from eq and the compressor. :)

@gromitsdad

The power supply unit could also be your problem. I remember a while back, my comp was restarting without reason. I suspected the harddrive, but finally it turned out, that my power unit was to small for all the additional parts i've put on my computer. Also make sure your harddrive isn't close to any other hardware, like the graphics card or the dvd player. Finally you should thing about gettin a additional case fan.

I don't have the courage to sing hmm wink

Thou don't need to sing, thou is a virtuoso...:D

No serious. If you're afraid of your own voice, just throw some hall (reverb) and chorus (not to extensive, or it sounds like your drunken) on it and you will be surprised how good it is (to yourself). Nobody will kill you for trying and uploading it...indeed people are interested in other peoples voice, because it's the instrument with the broadest spectrum. Train your voice and then upload a song with it included, I want to hear you sing on one of your awesome songs...:D

Take Jimi Hendrix as an example. He was also a guitar-virtuoso, but I wouldn't name him a good vocalist. Can you imagine a Jimi Hendrix song without his voice ? His voice gave the songs something unique.

You guys are awesome! REALLY appreciate the help, but I've got a good friend who is a master at data recovery and I trust his skills completely and he wasn't able to retrieve the lost data. Out of the 320g of data I had on that drive I only lost 3 Riffworld songs I was working on. I can live with that, especially since I do have almost final mixes of all three, just not the .rw files themselves.

I'll certainly be posting the others soon...both with vocals. Everyone here is so supportive and encouraging...

Thanks guys!

Can I put it in the microwave to thaw it out like a steak? I'll try that today and let everyone know how it goes! :P

Bill's incontinence knickers give plenty of support, but they do need to be emptied and irrigated occasionally.
