Based on some playing around I did with the Line 6 edition of Riffworks downloaded via Line 6 Monkey, I decided to purchase the Riffworks Standard Edition instead of registering the Line 6 edition.

So I purchase, download, and install Standard Edition. When I start Standard edition, it immediately crashes before even bringing up a window. Line 6 edition still works fine.

I installed Standard Edition on *another* Mac (Intel running 10.5.6, same as other machine) and Standard edition still crashes on every startup. I also tried installing Riffworks T4 on the same machine and it crashes on startup in a virtually identical manner. Has anyone else seen this?:

This is normally caused by permissions issues - i.e. RiffWorks isn't able to create certain folders and/or files on initial launch. Are you using your computer as an admin or a regular user?

Hi Randy,
I'm using it as a "regular" user. Can you give me an idea of what directories I need permissions on? I ran DTrace on Riffworks and I didn't see it try to open any files.

O.K. Randy, you sent me down the right track and I got it working. I logged in as an administrative user and ran the program, activated it and got it working. Now I can use it as a "regular" user.

Is this documented anywhere? I couldn't find it.

Thanks!

I guess having it documented in our heads doesn't count, does it. OK, I'll make sure it gets in the docs shortly. Sorry about that!

Glad it's working now though!

I am having exactly the same problem. Have Riffworks T4 Line 6 edition. Installed it on my iMac and Macbook Pro, both running Mac OSX 10.5.6. It works fine on the Macbook Pro but always crashes on startup on the iMac. I have installed it as an admin on both computers. I tried uninstalling and re-installing and still won't start up.

Any suggestions?

The fix for me was that after you install RiffWorks standard, you need to run and Authorize it from an admin account. Since purchasing Riffworks standar, I've seen other AU plugins I've purchased exhibit the same behavior (initial run and authorization must be done from an Admin account)

Riffworks L6 edition actually worked for me without doing this. However, after comparing the L6 Edition vs. Standard feature set, the 24-bit recording that Standard has and L6 edition doesn't made me go with Standard edition. Also, the Standard Edition has a newer version number (2.5 vs. 2.2) making me wonder if/when the L6 Edition ever gets updated.

I am an admin on my computer and I have installed and tried to run it on this account, yet I have no such luck in getting the program to run. I have mac osx 10.5.7 and I'm getting frustrated that i cannot even access the program before it crashes on me. Any advice/solutions?

My mac computer loads the program off of the CD, but will not let it run at all, it just quits unexpectedly! I have tried everything in the forums, posted in the forums, and no answer from anyone. I have tried uninstalling everything and rebooting, deleting cache, making sure I load in on the administrator, and tried doing permission repairs. Nothing has worked. I have hit a total wall. the program can't even get updated because it crashes immediately. I though perhaps I could download the newest version of the program online, but it says I never even purchased the thing, although its loaded and working on my PC no problem with a verified key. I wanted riffworks mostly for my mac because its a portable laptop and I could take it with me wherever I go and record with ease, but the only think I have gotten is headaches. Please help! Running Mac OSX 10.5.7

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Please contact Sonoma's support team directly about this as forum posts can get lost in the shuffle. Please include what edition and version of RiffWorks you purchased, where you purchased it from, all the info you can provide about your system and set up, and the info you posted here.

Thanks,

The RW 2.2.2 "Mac immediately crashing" problem might be caused by Riffworks looking for the wrong Line6 twx framework from /Library/.

It tries to load from L6TWXY.framework. I've done a clean install on a PPC machine and got a different version (in my case L6TWXG). Hence the crash.

You can verify this my running the OSX "Console" program in /Applications/Utilities and looking at the error messages after Riffworks has crashed.

whew, i found the solution for this; i struggled against this for a while. simply go to the the Mac OS X "Disk Utility" (under Utlities) and hit Repair Disk Permissions. It worked fine after that for me.
