ok so the riffworks guide on here says that riffworks will record a bass just as well as a guitar I dont find that to be the case in fact I can barely hear the low notes on my bass at all the effects kinda suck and I cant seem to get what bass I do play to be heard in the song without absolutely clipping like crazy. anyone else have problems using a bass with riffworks...

I'm using a UX2 Line 6 interface with Pod Farm and the bass Im using is a Dean Edge Playmate 10A with active electronics

any tips?

Can you post a sample on Riffcaster? You should be able to get a decent bass sound into Riffworks for sure. (I use the same setup minus your bass of course.)
I've seen a lot of folks mix there guitar levels too high beforehand so when the bass comes in to the mix it (the song) clips. Try to keep ALL your levels out of the yellow, nevermind the red.
Also in the Pod Farm mixer try to mix in a little bit more of the direct signal (D.I.) that should help a bit.

Riffworks doesn't do anything to the sound of your bass, it records whatever you give it.

First, check the battery in the bass. Yep, pop it out and stick it on your tounge.

Second, take some time with your bass and Pod Farm and learn how to get the best sound from it. Your bass is active, what do the knobs do? Bass, Treble, Mid? Is there a center notch on the tone knobs? If so put the knobs in the center for starters.

Third, once you find a useable tone, record some and mute the guitars in the mix. Just listen to the bass and the drum and make it sound good. Can you hear the kick and the feel the bass? Add the guitar parts in one a time and listen carefully. Use panning to seperate the guitar from the bass if things get muddy, or start cutting the low end of the guitar up to 180 using the eq.

Hope that helps a bit.

If you have RW Standard, the bass setups in Amplitude 2 Live are pretty good too. Give them a try with a clean signal.
There are people out there that look just like you. When they try to hand you something, don't take it. Grand Funk Railroad - Grand Funk Live
