I just bought the Alesis SR-18 drum machine so i can produce my own drum sections. I cant figure out how to connect it to my pod-studio and or make it work through riffworks standard. Any suggestions? There an instrument input outs and ins and also an auxillary jack on the alesis. The manual says it can be used for recording via the auxillary jack, but thats literally all it says. No diagram, nothin.

Do you have the pod studio ux1,ux2 or above?....the regular pod studio doesn't have a L/R lines in......as far as the aux stereo out...I imagine its what you need to hook up to an interface via a splitter cause if it is anything like my old sr-16 the main lines out have a voltage output that might fry an interface...as far as recording with it in Riffworks...I'm gonna leave that bear for someone esle to explain to ya...lol...loops done got me spoiled:D

I have an Alesis SR-16 drum machine, which for the purpose of recording with RW, it's the same thing. I ran one of the 1/4" outs into my toneport and used one of the Mic Preamp models to record with.

But here's the kicker. Since RW is not yet midi-capable, you have to start recording and start your drum pattern on the Alesis at EXACTLY the right time, otherwise the beat will not loop properly in RW. While it can be done, the process is so laborious that to me it's not really worth it.

If your SR-18 and my SR-16 have the same ins and outs (and I think they do), you should be able to run a 1/4" cable from your MAIN RIGHT output (that should be a mono signal). You could experiment with the different outputs to see what works best. But I'd advise programming your entire song on the Alesis then recording it on the computer using a linear recording app of some sort, as much as I hate to recommend something other than RW :)

Pooterpatty, do you run it into your instrument jack on your toneport or an input jack on the rear. Also, my UX2 has an input jack for standard pickups and actives. Im assuming i could hook my guitar up to pad for my emg's and the alesis into the standard port. This of course assuming you run it into the guitar input. Thanks again.

line 1&2 input on the rear of your UX2 from the left and right outputs of the drum machine....the instrument inputs on the front of the UX2 don't work that way..both are the same line just one is padded to be quiet for hi output instruments...you will have to choose wich item you want to record at a time (drums or guitar)...in gearbox or podfarm you have to choose wich input you use to draw signal from...you cannot do both instrument and line 1&2 from the back at the same time....one way to get around that is to have a small mixer and have a separate guitar sound other than the pod studio and drums both on it and take the output of the mixer into line 1&2 on the rear of the UX2....and like Pooterpatty said...you are in for a ride to try to get a smooth recording doing this method on Riffworks...unless you use another DAW to make drum sections to import into RW...that was the bear I was talking about..lol..I have a UX2 also...I would love to have the sr-18 cause of the jamtrax on it...anything that helps you work on your chops is worthy....also I would love to use it in Sonar 8 PE...but for now I have been using Beta Monkey Rex2 loops in the rex player of RW...welcome to the crazy world of crash course computer recording dewd...:D

+1 on Beta Monkey. The most Riffworks-compatible thing when an Instant Drummer just won't cut it.
