Has he tried replacing the 1/8" chord that goes to the input of his sound card? The audio for recording goes through the USB.

Not sure yet but I told him to look here for the answers.. I think maybe a monitor is to close or like you said a bad chord.

The only 1/8" cord I have goes between the tone port and the speaker, and that is brand new. This hissss was there when I had the tascam it just got louder and more agressive with the tone port. Could it be a poor surge protecter. The one I am useing is just a cheap home depot special 7 spot. I tried turning the moniter off and playing but that did not work.

Maybe but how far wawy are your monitors? The monitor has a big magnet in it.. Oh another thought Glen what about your computer being to close to the toneport or monitor speakers? I seem to remember a problem awhile ago that I had.. That is why I put the pc on the floor.. This noise should not have gotten worse with the new device.. Try using it on the laptop away from everything else and see if it still hums.

Taking a slightly different approach: Is the Tascam driver still installed? Sometimes extraneous drivers, particularly those which cause issues in and of themselves, lead to issues when a new interface device is installed.

The tascam driver is disabled. and the unit is diconnected.
I just disabled some sort of audio device inside the computer something called realtec and now there is no problem (so far). Could that have been it?
