Integrated on mother board Realtek AC97 Audio. I have an HP Media Center PC. The sound is on board and I have a tv tuner card also. I search the web until very late last night trying to find ASIO drivers and found and installed several differnet ones with no luck. Then I found some forum that said AC97 may not support ASIO. I did update the AC97 drivers last night (this morning), rebooted and still it hangs.

I appreciate the help.

Hmmm..I have the Realtek AC97 also and mine works fine. I wonder if there's something else afoot? Just a couple questions I can think of that may help us home in:

Are you using ASIO4ALLv2?
If you start it with the PODxtl and it gets all loaded up, are you able to switch to the ASIO4ALL driver in the control panel? Or do you not see it at all?

I am using ASIO4ALLv2. When I start RWS with the Pod off, the Device name gets set in the registry to ASIO4ALL (or something like that) then of course RWS freezes. I end task. Then if I turn the Pod on and start RWS it still detects the ASIO4ALL and hangs. I have to delete the device name entry in the registry and then restart with the Pod on and all is well. I haven't tried looking at the Audio Setup once it is up and running with the Pod. I appreciate your time on this.

I'm no PC expert, but in theory if it works with mine it should work with yours, so that bugs me! LOL

Do you have any other audio apps? I get ASIO4ALL as an option in things like Cubase for example. Just wondering if it crashes other things (could be the driver or hardware maybe) or just RW.

Here is the latest in what is becoming total frustration with RWS.

If I start RWS with PodXTL on, everthing is fine and I can select Audio Setup and I see the ASIO4ALL driver. I can select it. If I hit play nothing happens. If I attempt to load a file, it hangs.

I'm know that I don't know squat about ASIO, and all I heard, when the Standard buzz was going around, was being able to use RW independently. At this point of course I am thinking I should have saved $30 and stuck with the Line 6 v2. I would love to get this working.

Bluesydude can you use the ASIO4ALLV2 and your onboard sound with other programs? Just need to narrow it down. It would also be nice if Riffworks had a configuration menu outside of running the whole app. Then we could change settings before startup.

I don't see ASIO4ALL in anything other than RWS. I tried foobar, audacity and sonar4.

It does show up and it works with groove agent. It should they invented ASIO, I think.

In Sonar I believe its under driver mode. You should see the Pod there along with ASIO4ALL.

You are right, I found it in Sonar and it works. So what's up with RWS?

If audio hardware comes with an ASIO device that usually means that the manufactures intend for that hardware to be used in high performance low latency audio applications like RiffWorks. Some devices have ASIO but still have lots of problems with low latency applications. That’s why we have a recommended hardware list on our website.

RiffWorks Standard supports ASIO. That doesn't mean that every sound card is supported. ASIO4ALL really tests the limits of your sound hardware, and we can't promise that it will work at all.

I have a Realtek AC97 and I can use RiffWorks with it without too much problems. However a Guitar Port, Presonus gear, or other similar devices always work better.

-If a peice of audio hardware comes with an ASIO interface then it could work with RiffWorks

-If a peice of audio hardware is on our recommended list then we have tested this hardware and verified that everything is working ok.

-Some applications (including riffworks) will sometimes (sometimes not) work with ASIO4ALL.

So does Realtek 97 have its own asio driver? I was just trying to help here, and Im starting to wonder what advantage could he possible gain by using an onboard soundcard instead of his Podxtl.

The reason I was so looking forward to the standard version is because I play live and so my podxtl is not always here. So with v1 I could not play with the mix and save anything without the hardware. Of course if I am going to be recording with my guitar, I will have my PodXTL connected and I am in paradise. I just kinda feel let down and mis-lead about the claim of RWS hardware independence. $60 later, I understand that RWS is no longer Line 6 dependent, however to say it is a standalone application is a stretch.

If I could get the ASIO to work with RWS, I could sit on those rainy nights and lay down drum tracks and have them ready to go when I had access to my Pod again. I'm not blasting anyone and I truly appreciate the effort that has been put forth in trying to resolve this. But I am very disappointed and the problem remains unresolved.

I know what you mean! I have my PODxt and Focusrite I/O plugged through my normal monitors, and sometimes it's handy to just let it play through the PC speakers instead of firing everything up (gives another reference for mixing as well).

I'm not sure why my Realteck AC97 works and yours doesn't with ASIO4ALL, maybe I'm just a hair over the threshold with PC speed or something like that. That AC97 buried in the PC is the cheapest of the cheap though, and RiffWorks is using ASIO to get a better driver interface for latency reasons as I understand it...the 2 are just not working in your case.

Probably not what you want to do, but maybe somebody here's had success with a cheap soundcard. You'd probably get better sound to boot on those rainy nights :)

Thanks again everyone. I guess it is time to turn on the pod and record some blues.
