about electric guitar and effects

i just need your help guys, about my plan

i plan on buying an electric guitar, i have a Sound Blaster 5.1 VX sound card with a Line In on it

if i have an electric guitar can i plug it in to my sound card and use Riffworks T4 for distortion effects?

Don't think you will get very good results though. Guitars need an instrument level input and a line input is not the same thing.

If you are new to recording guitar I would look at one of the packages like the Toneport GX or IK Stealthplug for under $100, and you get some very useable modeling software to help you create your sound.

If you don't have the $$ for an interface you can still go straight to the line in using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Thats how I do and get pretty good results using a variety of VST's.... :)
