about electric guitar and effects

i just need your help guys, about my plan

i plan on buying an electric guitar, i have a Sound Blaster 5.1 VX sound card with a Line In on it

if i have an electric guitar can i plug it in to my sound card and use Riffworks T4 for distortion effects?

yes, that will work fine.

Don't think you will get very good results though. Guitars need an instrument level input and a line input is not the same thing.

If you are new to recording guitar I would look at one of the packages like the Toneport GX or IK Stealthplug for under $100, and you get some very useable modeling software to help you create your sound.

If you don't have the $$ for an interface you can still go straight to the line in using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Thats how I do and get pretty good results using a variety of VST's....
