I've found this problem both with Instant Drummer as well as REX drum files. It is not with all drums, just some.

When one riff ends and the next begins, there is a "hiccup" or silence at the beginning of the drum pattern, like it misses the first beat. Sometimes it is not too pronounced and is even a cool effect :-), and sometimes it doesn't even happen at all.

I'm wondering if my computer is too slow? I'm using an AMD Athlon 2500+ with 1GB RAM and a Seagate IDE harddrive. I've noticed also that when recording many layers on the same riff, after about a dozen or so layers, there is a distorted sound at the start of the new layer (doesn't end up in the played-back recording, just in the live monitoring).

The distortion sound when recording many layers I can live with, as it doesn't affect the final mix, but the drum hiccups are not very good as they do end up in the playback. I thought the drum problem might have been from running too many layers and/or effects, but it even happens with 1 layer and no effects on it.

Fortunately it does not happen with all the drums! But I don't want to keep throwing away ideas because I can't use some of the cool drum beats.

Thanks for any help or suggestions... does anyone know if there are any software updates coming soon for RiffWorks?

A cheap fix would be to buy another gig of ram. What you are describing sounds ram related to me.
