Hi everyone.

I am currently using Riffworks T4 and it suits my needs entirely.
I use a Line 6 Gx, but it leaves me yearning for more.

I am just wondering if i could use a mixer > http://www.millennium-music.co.uk/products/categories/subcategories/Alesis%20Multimix%208%20USB%20Rack%20Ears/brands/detail/key/p/ppp/ like this to record with.
Or will i have to fork out for Cubase or another product!

Thanks for any help,

Jack.

Welcome to the RiffWorks forum Jack! :D

The Alesis mixer isn't on the recommended hardware list so you'd be taking a chance. Is there something about a mixer you'd particularly prefer over something like the Line 6 UX2 (price might certainly be one factor)?
What kinda "more" are you looking for?
Cheers!

Blimey, that's cheap mate. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use it if it has usb connectivity. I doubt very much that it's on the list of devices approved/tested by Sonoma but even if it isn't and the ASIO driver isn't recognised it should work with asio4all (free download), might be worth a call to the company selling it to ask a coupla questions, Alesis make some other quality stuff.
No-one remembers what you do or say. Everyone remembers how you made them feel. Allegedly !!!!

I prefer the idea of a mixer because it's cheap and it has 8 or so inputs which would really benefit us, say with just recording a drum track!

And yes price is a big issue!
I've only just considered buying a mixer though.

Sorry for the double post guys!

So do you think i'll be able to use it if i download it?
I understand that the guitar sounds will be clean sounding as they are direct inputs, unless i mic' up the amplifiers...but thats going off on one! haha.

I might buy it and if it doesn't work ebay can have it! haha :D

Thanks.

You know that 19.99 is not the price for the mixer right? 19.99 is for the "rack ears" (which obviously are not pictured here). These are the metal brackets that will mount the mixer in a rack.

You can use any mixer with a line out jack. 1/4" plug into where you record your guitar now. Just set your sound as nuetral as possible. You'll only record 1 track at a time which is all Riffworks can do anyway.

For simultaneous recording of multiple tracks you'll need a regular DAW or multi-track portable recorder like a Fostex or Tascam.

I use a TASCAM US-428 but the drivers clash big time with other ones. The quality of the audio through the mixer is better than through my UX2 but the stability is a major issue. MS blue screen crashes in the middle of the best solo of your life is a bummer.
Cheers!

hey, I have a friend I am trying to get hooked up with RiffWorks so we can collaborate over the internet - he has the same board the alesis usb8 -- we are having trouble getting that board to work with riffworks as alesis does not supply an ASIO driver for the unit. There is another forum post for this same board as well. My friend and I have had no success so far getting this board to interact with RiffWorks - doesn't mean it won't work, just not easy for sure!

Have you used the ASIO4ALL driver with it? It's not really supported by Sonoma but lots of users on the forum have had success with it.
Cheers!
