Can I record vocals on riffworks? If so, then how?

Yes you can. If you are using guitarport you need a dynamic mic. If you are using Toneport you can use a condenser mic with the phantom power on. Does that help?

Yep, and its real easy. After youve created a song with riffs in the songbar, use your songlayers to record smoothly over the whole song.

You can do corrections with the the 'auto gain control' on your recording. this will give you abilities to do fades, make corrections (take out any unwanted noises) and improve accenting. I probably missing somethin too :)

To get into auto gain, click INFO on the layer.

cheers,

Thanks for the advice. But I still can't figure out how to sing on it. I have a PC mic and guitar port. When I hit record and sing into the mic, it simply doesn't record anything. The only thing that I can record is my guitar. But when I sing into the mic, it doesn't record anything. In other words. it does not let me record through the mic. How do I record through the mic? Do I need to plug it in elsewhere? The mic DOES work as it works on sound recorder, and audacity. But it doesn't work on riffworks.

Also, where is the 'info' feature on the layers? All I see is duplicate, fx edit, solo, and mute...

Jarvio,

This is how I record using my mic.:

Plug the mic into the GuitarPort hardware. Fire up GuitarPort. Using the GP software, choose one of the vocal pre-sets (I usually use the 'dry' one). From there you can use the amp model to vary volume, bass, mid, treble, fx etc. or use RiffWorks to play about with gain and panning.
Check you're getting a signal through by watching the Input Level LEDs.

The answer to the 'INFO' button is that it sounds like you're running RiffWorks version 1. You can upgrade to version 2 (called RiffWorks Standard) by visiting the Sonoma website. The Standard version will also allow to access dozens of new Instant Drummers.
Cheers!
Scott

Hi, thanks for the reply

Well I plugged my mic into guitar port hardware (the hole with the headphones icon), and tried to record my voice over a riff. I tried it with all 3 vocal pre-sets, and none of them worked, however, background noise and crackling etc recorded, but it didn't pick up my voice. It is a cheap PC mic I'm using though, could this be why? Bare in mind, the mic works fine with audacity and sound recorder.

A question, if I download the newest version of riffworks, do I lose my songs I've already made? Also, is it free?

Jarvio You need to plug your mic into the guitar jack. The one with the headphones Icone is just that. For headphones. Plug it into the guitar jack and then you should be fine

The mic doesn't fit into there..... it's a cheap, white, plastic PC mic, can that not be used for riffworks and guitar port? If not, then what mic do I need?

Radio Shack used to have cheap high impedance microphones with 1/4 inch plugs. Wait for a clearance sale if possible. That's the only way to get a good deal at Radio Shack. But I would just get the adapter (1/8 inch to 1/4 inch) as strat said.

Yeah, an adapter would only be about $5 at Radio Shack, etc. :)
