The new version of RiffWorks is amazing! I didn't think they were going to include the import/export option for riffs. How cool is that? Sooooo many great new features. You guys out-freakin'-did-yourselves.

Anyway, I thought I was going to be able to record to an infinite drum loop until I hit the stop button and then the program would figure up how many bars I had. I keep looking for this feature somewhere and I'm not finding it. Am I mistaken here or just missing something? Do I still have to plan ahead how many bars I need to count out? If so, bummer! It would be ok if there was an option to clip or cut any excess remaining bars of silence. Otherwise, I'll have to open a new program just to trim the fat. Oh well.

Everything else is outstanding! Great job guys :) Also, I noticed an improvement on performance. Always a bonus when you get new features AND the program runs better (faster).

Thanks,
Rich

I would probably approach it this way. Find a groove you like and set it up for 8 bars or more with the riff recorder and you can play through 24 takes before running out of space. That'll give you 192 bars. Then duplicate and solo each part in order and put them in the song bar. This will still give you some control over the drum parts if you want to later mix it up a little afterwards and if you stop early its not a big deal.

That is a great idea. Thanks for the feedback.

In your example, let's say I set up 196 bars and only use 120 bars. What happens to the other 76 bars when I "mix to wav" then? They are going to be there right? The best I can do is mute them? I am trying to find a way to record something in RiffWorks without having to bring it into another program for further editing. Thanks for your help!

I would add another way to do this...

If you want a drummer across the whole song, create a REALLY long regular riff and put it in the song timeline. Adjust the length to say 120bars or something. Now, that riff will play for 120 bars...

Now, switch to the Song Layers riff and record your part as one long song layer. After you're done recording, just hit stop and adjust the length of the drums riff to suit the song layer you created. Song Layers were put in the application to do two things. 1) allow you to record really long parts over your backup riffs. 2) allow you to linearly record for as long as you like.

Just an idea. I think the tools are there in RW2. Just find an approach that works for you...
