Is one of the purposes of rifflink to eventually license out , say, to some Canadian record label (or Amercian, or Chinese whatever) so They can manage the content produced by its artists?

Its a question of intelectual ownership rights.. For instance if Capitol records had a bunch of ideas it was working on with their collaborating artists, Im sure they would not be passing the Master copy of those unfinished
HIT ideas around to Rammit Records. It certainly would not be very smart. And its definatly not beyond the reach of experienced teams of sound engineers, producers and artists to identify the best elements of those ideas, mix em up a little , develop them a bit, while excluding the primary creator(s) of the HIT SONG material.

Might be bad news for some Would-be Professional musicians just dumping all their good ideas into one big computerized database. Dont worry though, Im pretty sure Sonoma plans to license the rifflink/riffwork technology out privately.

We want to add more controls to RiffLink. Right now everything is accessible to everyone. I hope that will change in the future. Capitol could control who can access which of their collaborations.

The first goal of RiffLink is to join up independent musicians on the internet so they can make connections and music together.

Really Im asking about licensing... Who gets to control the database? Will you license that control out?

Music cannot be licensed without the consent of all those who have had a creative hand in the music. If Dan56 wrote a guitar line, and Alphamate steps in with a killer vocal hook, their music could not be licensed without both of their consent. That's the law. Sonoma knows this, and therefore the music that is posted via RiffCaster or RiffLink cannot be licensed without the author's permission. Sonoma does not have the right to provide that permission, only the author(s) of the work does.

A simple password system could be useful. One could set up a server with a password and then later remove the password when ready to have people join in on it. Or we could get a regular SWW crowd password going around.

Now that ........would be cool..... there is no protocol or etiquette I should say to the collabs especially with the non regs...... I always try to leave an (is it okay to record a layer type) or a
( Let me know if ya like what I did .....If not I'll delete ) type message in the collab chats.
When I can sign in.........dammit...... lol

Or you could give the right to delete layers to the collab creator........

just my 2 cents
.
