Hello,

I'd like to record some vocals. I have the Line6 Riffworks, a Podxt, and a Sennheiser e835 dynamic mic (xlr).

Can I simply use an xlr -> 1/4 converter, or do I need something more involved?

Also, are vocal-specific effects available for either Riffworks or the Podxt?

If your mic doesn't require 48V phantom power, you can probably get great results by just converting XLR to 1/4 and plugging it in. As far as vocal effects go, the classics are really EQ, Compressor, and Reverb, all of which are available in RiffWorks.

If you download GearBox 2 (I think GB2 is compatible with PodXT, but you might want to check), if has a bunch of vocal presets and some nice new preamp models that are great for vocals. I haven't tested with the PodXT, so I'm not positive what all is there...

You might also want to check that the XLR-converterand microphone is in mono. plugging a stereo jack in the POD XT could cause irritating hum. Or maybe it's the other way around - plugging mono- into a stereo jack... I'm not sure.
A piano has about 7.500 moving parts - that's why I play the guitar...

The conversion jack should be XLR to 1/4 inch with a tip and ring. I have a cable like this for a dynamic mic and it works fine into the PODxt.

For the PODxt presets, I would suggest recording dry or with just some type of tube preamp setting (no effects) then add effects in RiffWorks. Then you'll be able to edit the effects to suit the mix. Feel free to play with everything and find something that sounds good to you.
