first off, i have to admit that i´m a bit confused about what has been happening around my setup of guitarport and riffworks recently. all of a sudden, there was this gearbox thing ("a new interface for my guitarport? why?"). then i read about an upcoming sww riffworks v2 and its differences to a yet later on upcoming line6 version of that same software ("what the heck...?"). i guess i just never understood the modalities of how the two companies line6 and sww cooperated anyhow.

nevertheless, when i saw (tonight) that the line6 version of riffworks was out, i didn´t hesitate to buy it, though i was somewhat taken aback by the price tag that only applied to old users ("what? am i being punished for having bought the software at a time when it was not yet THE must-have application??"). but i trusted you wouldn´t fail to deliver good stuff for my money.

now i just made my first steps with the new software and am in need of some clarification & help...

1. i´m kinda used to new software versions overwriting old ones. but with rw v2, this doesn´t happen, right? instead, i now have TWO software setups running on my computer: the old rw v1 that works with guitarport 2.5, and the new rw v2 that works with gearbox. correct?

2. i´m somewhat frustrated that the instant drummer sessions i bought for rw v1 have not been automatically imported into v2. i hope it´s some sort of error on my side, because this is what your faq says about it:

"If you are a RiffWorks (v1) user who purchased InstantDrummer sessions from Line 6, and you upgrade to RiffWorks Line 6 Edition (v2), your drummers will work fine."

well no, they don´t - they don´t appear in the "drummer" drop down menu of 2.0 at all. what can i do about it? should i follow the advice you´re giving to crossdressers, i mean crossgraders in the faq´s?

3. after registering at sww, i got access to the two new id sessions, matt sorum and barebones. i downloaded and double clicked them, and yes, i got an activation message. however, when i started rw v2 the next time, an error message told me that these 2 sessions couldn´t be found and that i should re-download or re-activate them somehow. i tried everything but still couldn´t get them live again. help please!

thanks for your patience - i´m sure everything will turn out to be fine :-)

I had to copy the drum files from the old Rifftracker to the drum folder in the new Rifftracker and then all the drums show up and are ready to use. Just use windows explorer to copy from the old drum folder to the new one.

thanks guys - that worked fine! would be nice if this was something that would be addressed by l6 and sww in a forthcoming way - sth like a readme entitled "things to know & do when upgrading from v1 to v2". or did i overlook that?

however, i still have this problem with matt sorum and barebones. i copied the files into the drummers folder, too, and still got that error message when starting rw v2. just in case, i re-downloaded the barebones file again, double-clicked - and yay!, there the positive "activated!" message was! unfortunately, when i started rw again, that other message reappeared - "files not found".

but maybe i´m misunderstanding sth here. are these two files full drum pieces, containing fills, intro, verse, chorus etc - or are they just one demo track each? because in the latter case, they do appear in the "demo drums" dropdown menu. i was just hoping that they were the real thing... are they?

oh, and one more thing. is there a manual available that explains specifically the new v2 features? i found this list:

# Riff Gain – Overall gain matching for song mixing.
# Riff Effects –Effects chain on the Riff as a whole in addition to each layer.
# One-shot Record – Alternative to continuous looped recording mode.
# Backup Effects – Complete effects chain for each backup module including InstantDrummer™ and ReWire.
# TapeRiff – Record straight linear tracks over a complete song--ideal for vocal and solos.
# Fade Automation – Continuous volume control for each layer.

that sounds very fine, but how exactly do i operate all this?
