Saw this on Digg today and my first thought was all you beer drinkers. :)

I´m not surprised. U.S. food is absolutely underrated in the rest of the world, and I´m not joking. The number of 1449 breweries is indeed impressive, though one has to say that there are 1249 in Germany - a country with a third the population and one hundreth the size, or something like that :-)

My guess is, though, that the U.S. market is much more dominated by a few brands that spoil the fun for everyone. Budweiser, Miller and Schlitz are everywhere - and the remaining 1446 brands cater to the gourmet 5% of the population. Over here, every region has their local brand. However, things are going downhill. Germans are drinking less beer every year, down to a puny 112 liters/head/year. Kudos goes to the Czechs - they down about 160 liters/head. I wonder if we have any Czechs among the Riffjunkies?

Thanks for posting this. It will give Mickey some guidance on how much beer he needs to be buying for the whole of July! :D

160 litres x no. of Junkies = no money left for Mickey!
Cheers!

I'll be honest, I hate a beer snob. You know the type...

"Actually, this is a really nice bar, in spite of the fact that they don't carry your chocolate cherry soy latte micro-brew. Order a Pabst Blue Ribbon and shut up before I punch your face please."

That being said, I do like to buy Warsteiner when they have it, but I'll drink High Life or anything else that's cold and sudsy when they don't. Come to think of it, there aren't too many beers I've met that I *haven't* liked.

And with all the newbies jumping on board recently, I don't think Mickey even pays for beer anymore :)

Hey some people like the good stuff, where is the problem with that? Just because Pabst has a little ribbon on it doesn't mean it actually won anything, maybe cheapest beer ever?

Seems to me, most of the popular, low budget major US brands of beer taste like piss. Just my opinion... Sure lighter beers have their time and place.

I'd almost rather be punched in the head as you get over the headache part alot faster. If you can drink more than like 6 beers and still not be smashed out of your goard, it ain't beer... it's a cheap immitation.

There are a ton of GREAT american beers. Unfortunately most don't get the distribution or recognition they deserve. Seek and yee shal find!

Not necessarily - I know plenty of people who can drink 12 or more bottles of the "good stuff" in one sitting without being overly impaired. They're called alcoholics :D
