i think this modeling stuff is great. but i wonder what is the best speakers for it?
like you guys that play live or through an amp rather than the stereo (like me too).

i mean if you can choose an amp and cab, which all have their own color, wouldn't running it through your amp and cab throw it's own flavor on the modeler too?

anyone making amps and cabs for that, besides maybe line6?

I currently own a Washburn 12 string acoustic and need to replace my 6 string electric. I am not a guitar collector and cannot see myself having several of them, probably 3 at the most. Could purchasing a variax modeling guitar along with a POD X3 Live be sufficient to cover a person's gear needs, or would that be overkill?

"The AxeFx effectively destroys any notions that guitars and digital processing don't mix. This powerful processor delivers stunning, expressive tones and effects that most players would have difficulty achieving with even the finest analog gear. Considering the vast universe of sounds residing in this unit, it's an exceptional bargain for anyone who wants to simplify their studio and live performance rigs without making any sacrifices whatsoever. In fact, it may be the last guitar processor many players will ever need to buy." -Chris Gill, Guitar World Jan. '09 issue.

Glad to hear it Les, because I already put my order in for a Variax 600. :) All the advice I received in my post regarding Gibson LP vs Epiphone LP was great. I took a long time to try out all of the brands that I could get my hands on. I really liked the Hagstrom Swede/Super Swede, the PRS SE Series and the Epiphone LPs. But in the end I decided to get the Variax because it covers so many models, and I now prefer to play on a maple fretboard.

Shred, you played an XT? I have an XT. Is the difference marginal between XT and X3 or substantial?

The sound quality of the new X3 is the best POD yet.....the XT just was not the same. I tried them both, using ear buds. I could not get the same end result with the XT.....I have no real reason......but the sounds were flat to me and not as dynamic.

Mind you the XT does not have a lot of the amp models I like are in the X3, so it may not be fair comparison. I believe you can add them, but I was testing them as they sat on the sales floor right out of the box. I found the X3 better for dialing in a custom tone.....and I wanted to not like it cause it was so much more $$$ :)

But the ability for dual tones is what sealed the deal.....now everything I play with my X3 is a dual tone patch.

Check it out......I am in love the X3 if you cannot tell.........but I was hoping some more people could back me up with their thoughts and opinions.

The X3 is very flexible, and an amazing unit.

I played on rack systems live back in the early 90's. My favorite being the ADA Mp3 thru an Alesis 200 watt stereo power amp into a pair of Marshall 4x12 cabs. It sounded great for it's couple of tones, but it was limited. Basically clean, distortion, and adding chorus on either.

I got out of music for 4-5 years and then bought a Line6 Axsys 212 back in 97' which was a decent 2x12 100 watt combo with modeling. I don't know if it was because it was such an early affordable model (under $1,000) , but I never liked the sound when turned up. It would sound great at low volumes though. It just got weak over 3 or so in my opinion.

About 2 years ago I bought a PoDXt so I could play thru headphones, and I'm really impressed with it's recording sound. It does take a little tweaking, but a couple of the factory presets I've found fit the mood with maybe a little noise gate or gain tuning. Not to mention the online library of other player's tones that can be downloaded and tried out in seconds/minutes.

All in all, for bedroom recording I couldn't imagine a traditional amp, and if I were to start back with a band again I'd make modeling a part of my live rig in some way. You can't beat the veristality for price.

Its on my shortlist Shred,Since I am a Gear whore (and I will get it) it will be
blasted thru 2 Mesa simiclass 295s(tube stereo poweramps)and 4 marshall 4x12 cabinets
in honor of its badness. Why? Cause its fun and annoying and loud is better.HaHaHa!

I LOVE Podfarm,I am tempted to run that into that rig, just gotta wait till the area is
clear from flying debris and such, and I dont wanna make the dog deaf.

Wait a minute,Whats this.....
