Oddly...the guy himself was often not! Go figure huh? He was very insecure about his singing and often downplayed himself in interviews

Jimi just had some kinda special magic. It wasn't ever about his playing so much as his spirit and what he brought to the music itself. It was other-worldly at times and once it gets into you, you kind of start to figure out that he stands in a league all his own. No use comparing him to others because it's not really possible.

Most of these people didn't really know who he was yet. The audience was completely knocked over at this show. I've seen other clips of it and they look like they're in a trance witnessing the second coming. He just had "it"

haha shred, you know loads of Jimi's licks you just didn't get them directly from him. This is one rule where there is no exception....:)

Or to put it in the words of someone whose licks you probably do know.....

True dat

I remember listening to ELL probably about 3 times a day in a trance when I was 15. I also had the blues album. That 12 minute rendition of `Waiting around the train station` was just insane. Some totally otherworldly licks just snapped out of the ether (out of his arse if you are less romantic)

The older I get the more I appreciate his accomplishments. I'm 27 now, THAT age. I can't believe he'd done all that at what feels to me (now I'm here ) still quite young.

Shred you should get Electric LadyLand and go from there.

Not a big Malmsteen guy, can't play a lick of his stuff either. But I have heard Satch make several references to how much Hendrix influenced him, so I guess that is close enough. :)
