Some of us may be old enough to have been influenced by Folk Music. Namely Pete Seeger who is turning 90 and having a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden this weekend. I wish I could attend. These were some of the first songs I learned how to play. If I Had Hammer, Turn Turn Turn, Where have all the flowers gone. Now music has evolved since those times and I am sure some would thumb their nose at songs like this but look at the list of performers that are showing tribute to an icon in music and then tell me that our roots in music don't come from somewhere in this genere still today. http://www.seeger90.com/

Man, thats one heck of a line-up.... I don't know if I was influenced by Folk Music, I remember If I Had A Hammer being in one of the first music books I owned. I started out playing bluegrass though.

Alice Restaurant Masacree is a classic 18min song. Took up the whole side of a vinyl. One of the first FM cuts. When FM radio started up there were all these deep cut late night stations that sprang up and would play songs that didn't fit the 2:00 to 2:30 min mold. Great song. And City of New Orleans. And then another I can't remember the title but I remember the words Fly'n in to Los Angeleees Bringin in a couple a Keeee's

That would be "Coming into Los Angeles", a really great song indeed.

They used to play Alices Resturant on the local classic rock station here every year on Thanksgiving. It was something we looked forward to hearing all year long.
