...I'd be really deeply interested how he does that. Because Gilmour does it all the time - he uses the Trem excessively on all his solos! My own - admittedly somewhat crappy - Strat goes out of tune if I as much as LOOK at the Trem! How? How can Gilmour play 5 Min solos with heavy Trem and still be in tune?

And he does it not only with Strats. Watch this:

Dear God, the solo delivered with the fatter sound of a soapbar PU just made me wince and cry tears of joy. How? Just how...?

I installed a Hipshot Tremsetter on my Strat and that completely solved my tuning problems. I'd recommend them for any standard type trem. Sure beats using 5 springs and not being able to use the trem at all (I've gone that route too).

Yeah Poot, but do you think that's how Dave's doing it? Do you think he has some special guitar setup? Because at least outwardly I can't see any alterations, no locking mechanics or anything. I remember that when I checked out some Fender "Gilmour Custom" models, there was no Trem-enhancing gadgetry on it either.

When it comes to his playing, to his tone and sense of melody and phrasing, I'm with Rich - the man is blessed. But on the hardware side, there HAS to be something tangible :)

You wouldn't notice if Gilmour had a tremsetter installed without looking in the back of the guitar. I agree about his ability though. Awesome touch feel, phrasing and melodic sense. But you can hit lucky with a standard strat trem. He's not exactly going wild with it, and mine is actually quite good in terms of staying in tune; although that tremsetter looks good so I might think about one of those.

Ok, my eBay chinese $9.99 neck and $25 locking tuners arrived 2 days ago!

Funny, the pics posted on the eBay auction didn't reveal any fake Fender logo! :-) The touch and feel of it is literally cheap. Tehy missed a couple of spots on the neck when coating it, the coating feels sticky but what can you expect for £9.99? So I mounted the tuners and put the neck on the body.

First thing I noticed is that the neck doesn't come parallel to the body! The is a slight forward tilt when all mounting screws are tighly fastened. This means I have to some carving in the heel cavity for the enck or do some sanding on the back of the necks heel :-(

I put on a set strings also, did a quick rod adjustment, tuned up the guitar and did the trem adjustments for a floating trem setup. After that I tried to intonate the bridge and found a big problem. The bridge is about 5 mms to close to the neck, there isn't room enough on the bridge to intonate any of the string, they all go a bit sharp. So I must move the bridge 5 mm backwards which means I have to do some routing in the trem cavity.

By forward tilt..do you mean towards tne bridge?...you can shim the neck between the back 2 screws..several strats ive taken apart have had a shim in them...about 1" wide and about 1 and half "long...a peice of a playing card...or any peice of plastic will do...the thickness would depend on how much back tilt you need...i shimed my yellow strat to get better action...

@Strat: yes, the neck is tilted towards the bride. Placing a shim between the 2 back screws is a great tip!

Looks like great fun JouniL- The most I have ever done was restore a 62' fender tele that my uncle had basically destroyed. He wanted to make the body rounded like a Gibson- and after he screwed it up he stored it in his apartment behind a radiator wich warped the neck. I replaced the neck with a '69 and resanded the body.. I used an old matchbox(wood Case) to raise the neck. And put a new Symor Duncan pickup in it. The back plate was missing but I found one off an old Sears guitar that atleast looked Authentic...(Oh that sears guitar was cool to you could sing through the pickups unique vocal sound) Anyway the guitar was very playable.. but I never did finish the work on it. It was stolen along with my 49' Kalamazoo Tube Amp, and My Dad's 57' Flame burst Gibson les Paul custom back in 94'. I got a lot of money in the insurance settlement but really it was one of the biggest heart breakers of my life.
Still I would love to do what you are doing now. So much fun.

Hey anyone here ever heard of Monson Guitars?
