Take three deep breaths, and tell yourself, "I will not post GEAR here".

Ebows, hipshot tremsetters, string winders, etc. All those little gadgets that we are forced to face and consider while we wait for the guy to ring up our order at the music store. This is usually when I do that "do I need anything else" double take. Sometimes, I'll find something that I like (like my spinal tap second coming guitar picks that I got back in 99)

I bought a "lutehole" one time. It was a wooden celtic design cut out of wood that fit in the soundhole of an acoustic guitar. It was a beautiful thing, until it broke.

Another cool gadget I bought a while back was the earvana compensating tuning nut.

The rolling capo is nothing short of brilliant.

I own a JDL Bridge system that I bought intending to help with some bowing on the front of my Dean 12 string. Didn't help much with the bowing, but made a VERY notable difference in the sound of the guitar. Much louder now. I plan on selling the Dean and putting the JDL system in my Ibanez acoustic.

By the same token, there are things that I've bought that looked cool at first, but, well....

One thing I wish I hadn't bought, was the little practice board. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a short piece of wood (maybe 10 inches or so) that had six strings on it. The point was that you could practice picking technique anywhere. Only problem was, I worked from home! I always had my guitar available when I wanted to practice! I realized about a year after I bought it, that I wished I hadn't.

Then there was the dual pick. It was a pick that had two pics on it, so when you plucked one string, you also plucked the string below it. I bought one of the Stylus Picks too. That also didn't work for me.

Anyway, if you've any cool accessory stories to share, let's hear em!

I bought some slides that are too big for me. That was dumb. I used to buy lots of Acid CD's that I never really used, also a waste.

Nose flute, big triangular picks, a harmonica rack that I can never get to stay in front of my mouth, and a box full of more crap I may have used once (or not at all) and never touched again.

the frikken "Guitool" turns out I was the tool for buying it.....what a worthless piece of junk! A phillips screwdriver that doesn't even remotely fit anything on a guitar.....Allen wrenches that if you can find one to fit your guitar....the guitool slips and puts a ding on your finish. ........string cutter SO clumsy.... WTF.........the thing works good as a paperweight though.

Nose flutes are great! Who'd have thought a cheap piece of plastic could turn the jams like that! I can't whistle worth a damn, but I can play a nose flute!

Here's a neat one.

And check this out.

Who'd have thought? Attaching the capo to the hand instead of the instrument! With this, you don't have to know how to play! This thing is the perfect birthday/christmas present for the person who's always wanted to play guitar, but could never get past the fingering. The site claims that 95% of all people who WANT to play guitar, never do, because the practice thing. I'd have to say that in my experience, that has been somewhat accurate. I know at least a dozen people who've bought guitars, only to sell them a month later. My brother has done it three times!

I'm definitely getting one so that my daughter can play with it. If it turns her on to guitar, it'll be worth it. And my brother is definitely getting one for Christmas.

I once sold a rather unique guitar accessory myself. Maybe one day I'll get back into it (I've kept the domain name all these years). If so, I'll give you guys big discounts of course.

When I was 15 I bought an ocarina, it looked like a ceramic fish with holes in it, so I could play the solo in Wild Thing by the Troggs. My mum thought it was something to do with drugs and slung it in the dustbin (Trash) It was about then that I developed my arserphone technique, she could hear the music but was always too polite to suggest where it came from, and of course, it wouldn't fit in the bin ;)

You can get this Ocarina as an app on the iPhone now. I had no freaking idea that is was a real instrument until your explanation here. I bought a Recorder while in high school so I could play a Bee Gees song. I can't even remember what the song was now. It was early BeeGees. I still have the Recorder and I promise I won't rifflink a song with either it or the iPhone Ocarina. On second thought...........:D

I bought one of those "Jellyfish" picks with the the wire strands that are supposed to roll across the strings for more sound. Sort of like a little wire paint brush thing. I figured I'd get some cool sounds out of my 12 string banjo.

What a load of poop!

The wires have these rough ends that hook onto the strings and slow the strum and also make a terrible sound. Don't recommend it, not a very quality item. The ends need to be smoothed out or something.

I went to Guitar Center a few months ago to buy some picks and ended up buying a pair of $400.00 Yamaha studio monitors. I got a little distracted I guess....
