Honorable mention to Fleetwood Mac 'The Dance' and Iron Maiden 'Live After Death'

One of my FAVS too....SRV played in concert like nobodies business.....he had a fire that is rarely seen......... hard to believe that he/they (SRV & Double Trouble) got boo'ed at there 1st Montreux Festival in '82....he was the triumphant "king" at the '85 one though. :)

Me too........I have it put away for safe keeping. That was my instructional video when I first starting playing guitar. Hard to believe I didn't burn it out with all the pause/rewind/play action........lol

The El Mocambo SRV show is indeed a gem of a dvd. Stevie hardly missed a beat the entire show, and, as usual, was "in the moment" and not trying to nail the sound from the album. As a guitar player, it's probably my favorite of all time, with Vai's Live at the Astoria coming in a close second.

As a musician, I gotta give my vote to Queen Rock Montreal or Queen at Whimbley. Both shows caught the band when every member was at their peak (wondering if there ever was a time when they WEREN'T at their peak).

Now, when it comes to someone nailing the sound on their albums, there can be only one winner, and we all know who that is...... No, not Milli Vanilli. Exit Stage Left, A Show of Hands, Grace Under Pressure, ALL brilliant performances worthy of awe by any practicing musician no doubt. I did catch R30, but have not yet seen the DVD of Chronicles, Rush in Rio, and Snakes and Arrows, but I'm sure they all rock equally as hard.

And I gotta give credit to our local boys Collective Soul as well. Their 'Home' dvd was amazing. Gotta love it whenever a rock band gets an orchestra together to do all their popular tunes in grand fashion!

Of course, I haven't yet seen The Police, Certifiable. But compared to the ones mentioned above, it would have to be pretty damned incredible to rank amongst them. And the older shows I've seen by The Police didn't even come close, so.... But I AM wanting to check it out. Any of you guys seen it yet?

I like Collective Soul but have not seen their video. I saw Stang in concert. That's West Texan for Sting.

They got the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra to back em up on a whole slew of their good stuff (I've always been a CS fan). Scored it at Walmart for like 9 bucks. I always keep an eye on their selection cuz they're so cheap there.

ps... Isn't the correct vernacular "I done seen Stang in concert awready"?

Yeah man, we're talking about dvds, not betamax! But I agree, the old stuff is typically much better than the new stuff.....
