Eight years later and it is still a hole in the ground. An ugly sacred scar and not a memorial site. I think a lot of people have forgotten what made this country great......back in the day.
The Empire State Building was built in 400 days.....I'm just saying.

I hear ya Bob, but when I was in New York earlier this year that big hole in the ground made a bigger impact on me than anything else. I know they have to do something with it eventually, but I'm glad I got to see the undeveloped site. It somehow made the memories of what happened there all too real and a very moving experience.
I'll likely most remember seeing no jets or contrails in the air for like a week past the initial, the stock market shutting its doors, the price of crude went to 16 dollars - 16! Seeing congress take a vote for war.
i watched "102 minutes that changed america" on friday (aired on the history channel). It's raw footage taken by people in the streets and from their ny apartments and hotels. It really captured the fear and insanity that those people experienced that day. I recommend it to anyone who is capable of putting themselves through the horror of that day again.
My wife and I had just gotten engaged and our engagement party was sept. 15th 2001. We were on the jersey shore and we could see the smoke coming off Manhatten still 4 days later. It was so surreal. My wife and I are going to take our son to ground zero soon. We are finally ready to experience it, I think.
