Well, it seems finalists are being names for submissions already. I had wondered if they would have cutoffs for each track as it is a time intensive project and they have to have structure but it did say submissions would be allowed for the entire 11 weeks. Now they come up with a stated structure and rules, I suppose they wanted to see how it would go even though they had this format in mind they never specified it as being closed off within a week for each.

I just want to post it here in case anyone (like myself) has spent time getting their tracks right for the parts they want and then have the door slammed. I could submit under a different title and see if it gets me tossed out the door like an obnoxious drunk at a bar.

BTW, congrats on your finalist entry Evan.

*UPdate/Edit; Everything you need to know is covered; many Q&A are in the 'About' section of the project site- essential tips too are on the site. My apologies to Tommy and anyone directly involved with the project on his team.

I want to add to some but not seeing where I fit in yet. The tracks have been a bit popish so far and don't require alot of jamming.

The only thing I can think of a workaround would be a video to get your idea heard...but even then I don't believe its going to change the lockout - who knows?
The tracks have been heavy marketable with a pop vibe, it took a few days to process what I wanted to do but there's definitely room within the framework for melodies, fills, hooks, punches grooves and solo.
You can alter the bass, the guitar to a degree but they want to work within the structure (as per the rules) and the stemlines. I was surprised there were submissions in a completely different key than originally outlined with the vocals and some with tempo changes too.

Hmmmm i thought the cut off for Talk me off the ledge was December 5th. I worked on it and was going to do more this weekend. So am i out of the loop now? Big congrats to Evan ..that is way cool! Cant wait to hear your version Tom. Yea i had a tough time finding a vibe to fit into the pop-ish thing going on. I was able to create what i thought was a cool grove in the song but wasnt sure if it was enough to get chosen. So if anyone knows if we have time to submit or not, let me know... maby i'll post what i have done after i'm finished.

Hey Rick - I was under the same impression but it seems that was an assumption made on our behalf's.
Prior to anything I poked about a bit and didn't see any deadlines other than the stated 'taking submissions for the 11 weeks ' which really doesn't define anything specific. It seemed logical to have cutoffs on every song as another came available but nothing was stated as such. Evan had mentioned to me a blurb of something on Tommy Lee's site had mentioned that there would be cutoffs for every song.
I had some pretty cool ideas I thought but now I'm somewhat soured on the mislead or lack of specifics.
It seems they're taking it as they come. I would like to finish my ideas but if my focus is on a song a week, that will be first if I'm to do this at all. I would think you'd have some cool ideas too Rick, like to hear them. even with a lockout I would put it up here on Riffworks anyways.

I see they're making you sign a digital disclaimer now too before the downloads - that was not the case before.

In thinking this over a bit more, it seems your name contributions may only mention first name, last initial. In approaching this, I vary what I listen too for ideas, namely, mute everthing but the vocals and work off the lyric content and the singing. I think it would be cool to pool our *b* ideas, submit them as a collective ala junkie style.

oh the drama continues. I just spent 9 hours getting my version for swallow to mix to mp3. Its all finished, I've been up for 24 hours... go to save, 'invalid file format' .. oh, not this sh!t again. I got it to load from a partial save once, now that is also coming up as invalid. I'm not sure if I can finish let alone stay awake for another 6 hours to rerecord everything.

He seems to be diggin the complete work overs of his tunes as well - *so*, what do I know? Put your own slant into it and anything goes. If it sounds cool/good to you - put it out there, freedom of expression is just that.

I posted a version of Louder if you guys didn't hear it. My solo is a little weak, but I think my rhythm is pretty strong.

Alright, I rerecorded some parts. It's not the same as the corrupted because I was sooo tired, I couldn't 'xactly recall all of what the heck I did.

Now I am havin issues with gettin the stems mixed to MP3 because the vocals are printed on the same riff I am recording too.
Its not as easy as exporting a riff and mixing it to mp3 in audacity as it should be.

Anyone has any tips on how to get your parts from the Riff and mix it to mp3 individually? Can I splice two riff parts in audacity to make one mp3?
