GuitarTone Quickstart

GuitarTone requires access to your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch microphone. Access can be granted by going to SETTINGS, PRIVACY, MICROPHONE, and making sure GuitarTone access is switched on.
Step 1: Plug in, Launch GuitarTone, then Edit Settings

For best results, plug one of Sonoma's GuitarJack audio interfaces into your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, plug your guitar into GuitarJack's 1/4" jack, and plug headphones into GuitarJack's 1/8" headphone out. Refer to your specific GuitarJack model guide for instructions.

If you have a new StudioJack Mini or GuitarJack Stage, see the StudioJack Mini Guide or GuitarJack Stage Guide for more information. For example, you'll find a diagram for how GuitarJack Stage controls GuitarTone.

For GuitarJack Model 2 users, launch GuitarTone, and go to the GuitarJack Model 2 Control Panel, which is where you can select a mode and set the input level before playing your guitar. For guitar, we recommend selecting the 1/4" Input tab, setting the gain so the meter reads between -9 and -6dB, setting the impedance to Hi-Z, and setting the output level to a comfortable level. GuitarJack Model 2 will retain the current settings and levels even when the iOS device goes to sleep or the GuitarJack is disconnected. If you are using the 1/8" input, these guidelines still apply.

If you are using an alternative dock connecting interface, keep in mind that those devices are not software configurable. You will not be able to take advantage of GuitarTone's GuitarJack Model 2 Control Panel with pad, Lo-Z and Hi-Z modes and 60 dB of continuous level control. Launch GuitarTone.

If you are using a headset guitar interface, we recommend enabling GuitarTone's Noise Gate. You will not be able to use the GuitarJack control panel. Keep the output level below 75% to avoid feedback when using headset devices.

Step 2: Select the Mixer Tab

The Mixer allows you to do several things: Monitor level 1 is the 1/4" input, and Monitor level 2 is the 1/8". When only using the 1/4" input, Monitor Level 2 is the direct, unprocessed signal from the 1/4". Mixer also lets you turn on Small Speaker Mode, for clear sound while playing through small external speakers. You may also enable iPod play-through so that you can play along to your favorite songs by launching GuitarTone while the iTunes app is playing.

Step 3: Select the GuitarTone Tab

Tune your guitar by touching the tuning fork icon. The first screen you are presented with is a preset tone created by Sonoma Wire Works with an amp, effect and microphone. Slide the entire preset to the left to hear reveal several more presets. To edit the preset effect, amp, or cab/mic, simply touch one of those three icons at the bottom of the preset. Those three icons will allow you to adjust, add and subtract effects, adjust and change the amp, adjust the amp, and change the cab/mic combo for each preset. You can save the changes you've made to each preset by either selecting the SAVE icon or trying to swipe to a new preset. This will allow you to change the name to a unique name, so that you can keep the original preset names and settings in tact, or discard your changes. An alternative way to peruse the presets is to touch the preset list button.
